With a grant from North West Arts, Fraser decided to take photographs while on a journey that ‘would begin from the edge of Britain but otherwise be unplanned, governed by chance encounters and by circumstance and it would continue for twelve days’ (ibid., p.39).
For the second shoot, which became the second exploration of journey within my book, I wanted to explore different location and combine the multiple elements of my research. The first shoot was a journey through London - very city based. For the second half of the book I wanted to explore the opposite so I chose a more seaside, rural journey. I wanted to do this so that the comparison between places could be shown visibly but still tying in many of the elements of the first shoot to make the switch between locations more seamless - keeping the harsh lines/geometrical nature of some of the shots. I wanted to show the difference between city and rural living and how this can be documented all through travel in a car. Due to the pandemic, I was unable to use other modes of transport for this second shoot however I think the result would have been interesting if I had been able to as planned. In the final design of the book I added maps of the journey which will be placed before of the images in the book, just like a typical map book .
